According to reports from David Letterman’s taping Thursday afternoon, the CBS host spent some time sharing his appreciation of the legendary comic with his audience.
“Here’s a woman, a real pioneer for other women looking for careers in stand-up comedy,” Letterman said Thursday. “And talk about guts — she would come out here and sit in this chair and say some things that were unbelievable, just where you would have to swallow pretty hard, but it was hilarious… The force of her comedy was overpowering.”
In July, Rivers sat down with Letterman just days after she walked out on a CNN interview that she felt was focusing too much on the negative aspects of her career. At one point, Letterman decided to give Rivers a taste of her own medicine, walking off the stage and leaving her to interview herself. Not missing a beat, Rivers slipped into the role of host, asking, “How’s your sex life, you old bitch?”
