Jake Tapper conducted a phone interview with Hillary Clinton on The Lead today, and at one point he asked about whether she’ll make herself more available to the press in the near future.
The CNN host was particularly interested in getting Clinton’s reaction to Donald Trump‘s attacks on her and on the media during his veteran-donation-centric press conference today. Clinton touted her own work for veterans and said the media had to “shame him” to make him bragging and start clarifying the details.
Clinton criticized Trump over his attacks on reporters today, warning that the presumptive GOP nominee could cripple the government’s functionality if he becomes president and keeps insulting people.
“His attacking everybody,” Clinton said, “is a recipe for gridlock in Washington… He seems to believe, or at least is demonstrating, that insulting and attacks is his mode of operations and I just don’t think that’s going to cut it.”
Tapper pointed out that, unlike Trump, Clinton hasn’t held a press conference to address the media since December. With that, Tapper asked “Is that something you’ll remedy soon?”
Clinton said she’s done plenty of interviews on many different settings and subjects since the start of 2016, but she never directly answered the question.
