Ted Cruz: Donald Trump Shouldn’t Apologize for Comments About Mexicans
Texas Senator and Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said on Fox and Friends Tuesday that Donald Trump didn’t have to apologize for his controversial statement that most illegal Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and criminals, accusing NBC of giving in to political correctness for cutting ties with the alleged presidential candidate.
Host Steve Doocy asked Cruz his opinion on “amnesty for illegals… And how do you feel about Donald Trump’s comments that there are drug dealers and rapists coming across the border?
Cruz began by reiterating his opposition to amnesty. “When it comes to Donald Trump, I like Donald Trump. I think he’s terrific, I think he’s brash, I think he speaks the truth. And I think NBC is engaging in political correctness that is silly and that is wrong.”
“Should he apologize for what he said?” asked host Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
“I don’t think you should apologize for speaking out against the problem that is illegal immigration,” he responded. “I recognize the PC world, the mainstream media, they don’t want to admit it. But the American people are fed up.”
“Are they mostly drug dealers and rapists coming across the border?” Doocy asked.
“Look, they’re not mostly that,” Cruz admitted. “But Donald Trump has a way of speaking getting attention. And I credit him for focusing on an issue that needs to be focused on.
