Jimmy Fallon flew from New York to LA during the Super Bowl on Sunday, just so he could stop by the first show of Jay Leno’s final week as host of the Tonight Show, before he takes over the show back in NYC on February 17th. To honor the man who’s passing him the Tonight Show torch, Fallon did one of the signature bits that he says is coming with him to the new show: “Thank You Notes.”
Fallon worked in a few jokes about the Seattle Seahawks and Leno’s massive car collection before turning more serious. “Thank you, Jay Leno,” he wrote, “for carrying on the proud tradition of the Tonight Show host with such humor and class and for being nothing but gracious and generous to me over the past years. I will do my best to make you proud every single night.”
We’ve come a long way since Leno first gave up the Tonight Show desk to Conan O’Brien in 2009.
