Last week, we sent a survey to several dozen cable news hosts from Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC, hoping to gain insight into how insiders view their own colleagues and competitors.
While guaranteeing complete anonymity, we asked them to name one colleague for each of the following 10 categories: Best and Worst Hosts, Fox; Best and Worst Hosts, CNN; Best and Worst Hosts, MSNBC; Best and Worst Guests, Overall; and Best and Worst TV Reporters, Overall.
So when it came to CNN, how did our surveyed cable newsers vote? Take a look below:
—
Best Host, CNN
Shocker: The Lead anchor Jake Tapper won.
(We named him the best cable news host of 2014 and the best show overall.)
Unlike some of the other categories in this anonymous survey, however, the winner was determined by a plurality of votes. Tapper’s runners-up included Don Lemon (4 votes), Brooke Baldwin (3 votes), and Erin Burnett (2 votes), among several others. Wolf Blitzer was one of a handful of hosts receiving a single nod.

Worst Host, CNN
This was a tricky category, apparently, as there was no clear-cut winner(s). No one received a majority or even a plurality big enough to be declared the “winner” of the dubious honors. Every single name selected by our voters received either 1 or 2 votes, and nothing more.
Among those receiving two votes: Chris Cuomo, Kate Bolduan, Don Lemon, and Carol Costello.
