What was up with the makeshift tennis court set-up outside the News Corp. building in New York City yesterday?
It was all part of the new partnership between Fox Business Network and the Tennis Channel – in which the networks will exchange daily updates during the U.S. Open. This is just the latest in a series of sports-related steps the young biz network has taken aimed at positioning itself to reach a wider audience.
Here’s part of the release:
FOX Business Network (FBN) and the Tennis Channel have agreed to bring viewers daily updates of market and courtside action during the U.S. Open, announced Kevin Magee, Executive Vice President, FOX News.
Starting August 31, FBN and the Tennis Channel will exchange a daily update, giving viewers on each network access to all the action that takes place both on Wall Street and on the courts at Flushing Meadows. Monday through Friday, FBN’s Money For Breakfast will feature the Court Report with recaps from the previous day’s US Open matches. The Tennis Channel will break into US Open coverage at market close to give viewers the FOX Business Network Update, a summary of all the market moves from the day.
The partnership not only means FBN talent on The Tennis Channel, but sports updates on the business network as well (for sports gamblers, this may make a lot of sense – and Tennis is notoriously a big draw for bettors). But it is not the only sports deal FBN is involved in.
The Yankee Entertainment & Sports Network (YES) currently has a content deal with FBN, in which FBN talent appears on the network for updates during baseball games and other programming.
Although not a content deal, FBN recently added a sports anchor into the fold, Chris Cotter (formerly of another New York based sports network – SNY).
And we’ve written about the Happy Hour crew and their athletic achievements.
These can only help FBN as it continues to try to broaden its reach – a reach that is still about half of CNBC’s.
Here’s a clip from yesterday’s tennis match, featuring Cotter and Charles Payne:
