The FBI Investigated Orlando Shooter in 2013 and 2014, Didn’t Consider Him a Threat

PicMonkey CollageFBI Special Agent Ron Hopper discussed the Orlando gunman at a presser this afternoon and gave some details into why Omar Mateen was on the government’s radar before today.

The FBI apparently first looked into Mateen after “he made inflammatory comments to co-workers, alleging possible terrorist ties.”

So they investigated, interviewed him twice, and concluded that there was no “substance” to back up his declarations.

Then in 2014, the FBI looked into him again because of his potential ties to an American suicide bomber.

But the FBI concluded then that his contact was “minimal” and he did not constitute a threat.
