The Five Slams ‘Out of Touch’ Bill Maher for Comments About Red States: ‘High Snob-iety’

The hosts of Fox News’ The Five blasted Bill Maher for his recent comments saying people in red states wish they could be more like big cities in blue states.

Maher talked last Friday about how Amazon should be looking outside of big cities for HQ2, but he also engaged in what the Fox chyron dubbed “high snob-iety”:

“There are two Americas, and it seems like one is where all the cool jobs are, where people drive Teslas and eat artisanal ice cream. We have orchestras and theater districts and world-class shopping. We have Chef Wolfgang Puck. They have Chef Boyardee. Our roofs have solar panels. Theirs have last year’s Christmas lights.”

Red state voters, he argued, “don’t hate us, they want to be us.”

Jedediah Bila said today, “This is why Trump won. I don’t know how many times we have to say it… This not a good strategy. Why do they think it’s going to work with anyone outside of the top of the top of the top most elitists in maybe New York or Los Angeles.”

Juan Williams offered the “more generous interpretation” about Maher encouraging Amazon to go to red states.

Greg Gutfeld said Maher’s comments about red states are similar to “when we talk about California and New York,” but added, “His sin is using references from 1980 when he says that the red states are Chef Boyardee and the blue states are Wolfgang Puck. He might as well say the blue states are Maude and red states are All in the Family. He’s out of touch.”

Jesse Watters, meanwhile, said it’s the left that’s angry, not the right: “I don’t think red state people are angry. It’s the left that’s lighting things on fire and punching people in the face and screaming at the sky.”
