The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Has a Premiere Date

Fans of Stephen Colbert will have to wait eight more months until he’s back hosting late night TV. CBS announced today that the ex-Comedy Central host will be taking over The Late Show on September 8th.

Last month CBS announced that Letterman will be ending his long Late Show run on May 20th, leaving Colbert three and a half months to move in to the Ed Sullivan Theater and get his show going.

CBS executive Nina Tassler also provided more insight to Colbert’s plans for jumping to network late night. Colbert is, according to Tassler, figuring out whether he wants to open with a monologue, like the other late night hosts, but will definitely have guests and live music.

As for what will fill the late night slot in the interim, Tassler said they’d probably just show repeats of primetime programming. So get ready for a summer of CSI: Late Night.
