The tense confrontation that occurred between CNN’s Don Lemon and rapper Talib Kweli on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri Thursday afternoon may not be over quite yet. The day after Kweli repeatedly threatened to walk out of the live interview and accused CNN of “doing a horrible job” in its coverage of the protests there, the conversation continued on Twitter.
It started when Lemon posted an apology of sorts — or at the very least an explanation — for why he was not the one to invite Kweli or greet him when he arrived for the interview, something the rapper took offense to on air:
. @TalibKweli Re: invite. U were gonna be canceled. I said no. I did not know who u were but wanted ur perspective. Just so ur aware. peace
— Don Lemon (@donlemon) August 22, 2014
Kweli retweeted Lemon’s message without comment:
RT @donlemon: Re: invite. U were gonna be canceled. I said no. I did not know who u were but wanted ur perspective. Just so ur aware. peace

But then shot back at him with another accusation that the CNN host was using “lies” to “control the narrative”:
I dont care whether Lemon know me or not. But him saying he invited me is proof the media lies to control the narrative. That was my point.

Minutes later, Kweli posted a series of strongly-worded tweets, apparently aimed at Lemon and other media figures covering the Ferguson protests. He had some advice for what they should be focusing on:
Focus on the fact that the militarized police presence proceeded any "looting" or dangerous water bottles
— Talib Kweli Greene (@TalibKweli) August 22, 2014
Focus on the fact that these mainstream negroes spend more time blaming the victims of brutality for their brutalization
— Talib Kweli Greene (@TalibKweli) August 22, 2014
Focus on the fact that all mainstream media is giving you the oppressors narrative. We need to take it back & we ain't gotta be polite.
