‘The President Is Hardly a Credible Source’: Adam Schiff Hits Trump on Russia
Congressman Adam Schiff, ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, slammed President Donald Trump as dishonest on MSNBC Wednesday.
After calling for a special prosecutor to be appointed to handle the Russia investigation, Schiff was asked by Andrea Mitchell what he thought of Trump’s firing letter to James Comey, which claimed that the former FBI director told Trump three times that he was not the target of the investigation.
Schiff was incredulous: “I can’t comment on who may or may not be the subject of an investigation, I can say that the president is hardly a credible source on any of this stuff.”
Schiff went on to rebuke Trump’s claims that former director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified that there was no evidence of collusion between his campaign and Russia.
“Of course that’s not what director Clapper testified at all,” Schiff said.
“But regardless of what the president is, his associates are clearly the subject of this investigation, and therefore the administration itself, I think, has a profound conflict of interest in the firing of the director,” he continued.
Schiff also cited a “troubling” New York Times story, released Wednesday, reporting that Comey asked the Justice Department for more resources to put towards the Russia investigation just days before he was fired.
