The View Blasts Trump Criticism From ‘Shapeshifter’ Mitt Romney: Don’t Think He Has a ‘Real Moral Center’
The View had some mixed feelings on Wednesday about Mitt Romney‘s statements on Donald Trump.
During a discussion of Romney’s scathing Washington Post op-ed criticizing the president, Whoopi Goldberg wondered why the Utah senator-elect accepted Trump’s endorsement if he harbored bad feelings for the president while running for office. Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin were also skeptical, calling Romney a “shapeshifter” as they remembered how he tried to become Trump’s Secretary of State.
Meghan McCain took the conversation in a new direction by pointing out the “Romney-on-Romney crime” happening after Ronna Romney McDaniel slammed her uncle for his op-ed.
“Where I come from in political families, you do not attack people you’re related to no matter what happens,” McCain said.
Abby Huntsman noted the possibility of Romney challenging Trump in 2020 for the GOP presidential primaries — which McCain called “the worst idea,” and accused her of trying to help Democrats. Hostin went on to question whether Romney has any real principles or political core, given his track record.
“He is for himself. He’s a shapeshifter. He says and does what he needs to do for self-preservation. I don’t think he has a real moral center.”
McCain finished by expressing doubt that Romney can reinvent himself if that’s what he’s relying on for the basis of his “weird comeback.”
