The View Grills Sarah Sanders on Trump Lies and Birtherism: ‘I Feel Sorry For You!’

In a tense interview, the hosts of ABC’s The View went head-to-head with White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders┬áby claiming almost every word out of President Donald Trump‘s mouth is a lie. They also rehashed his infamous birther conspiracy theory.

While not known for data analysis, host Joy Behar threw out a figure at Sanders: 95 percent — the percentage of the president’s statements she claims are lies.

Behar added a condescending jab along with the number, “I feel for you. I feel sorry for you! That you have to go out and defend those lies every day.”

Sanders responded to the harsh accusations by saying she “completely disagrees” with that percentage. “It’s simply not accurate, and I think that’s one of the dangers we have right now is pushing so many false narratives every day — creating false perceptions about the president,” said Sanders.

The panel escalated into a tense exchange over Trump’s old accusations toward Obama regarding the place of his birth — a conspiracy theory considered by many to be a racist attempt to delegitimize the first African-American president.

“Where was president Obama born and is he an American citizen?” grilled host Whoopi Goldberg.

The press secretary opted for a non-answer, laughing it off with a quick response by saying the issue has already “been well addressed.”

Sanders’ father, former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, was also present for the interview. Both were pressed on how they’re able to cope with defending everything Trump has said, including his many attacks on the media.

To justify the administration’s war with the media, Sanders asserted that all presidents “have a bit of friction” with the press, though admitting that this friction has escalated with the current White House.

After responding to a number of rigorous lines of questioning, Sanders took a playful jab at the media — comparing them to her kids. “[raising young children] perfectly prepared me to deal with the White House press corps,” she said.
