‘This is Silly’: Spicer Gets Flustered When Asked if Nigel Farage Visited Julian Assange on Trump’s Behalf
Press Secretary Sean Spicer had a flummoxed moment on Thursday when he was asked about today’s news that Trump ally Nigel Farage went to the embassy where WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange lives.
Farage led the “Brexit” movement as the leader of UK Independence Party, and he became an informal advisor/booster for Donald Trump during the 2016 election. Reporters have noted that Farage was at the Ecuadorian Embassy of London today, where Assange holds residence as WikiLeaks continues to release information about the CIA’s cyberespionage operations.
In recent days, Spicer has fielded questions about whether the Trump administration holds the same feelings about WikiLeaks that they did during the election. During today’s press briefing, Spicer seemed to get annoyed when he was asked about whether Farage’s visit had a connection to Trump.
“I have my own concerns here keeping track of what everyone is doing. I generally don’t worry about what’s going on across the pond,” Spicer said. “This is silly. I don’t think asking where random foreign leaders are and whether they are there…I’m sure he was there doing whatever. But I don’t keep his schedule.”
