On Piers Morgan Tonight, former Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty appeared and proudly said “I’m running for President.” However, it seemed Pawlenty was a bit too eager with the announcement, since officially speaking, he has yet to declare himself a candidate. After the appearance, Pawlenty’s campaign was quick to make the clarification.
After Morgan asked whether Pawlenty would ever consider being Donald Trump‘s Vice President, Pawlenty responded “I’m running for president, I’m not putting my hat in the ring rhetorically or ultimately for vice president so I’m focused on running for president.” A spokesperson for the Pawlenty campaign later told CNN, “as the governor has said many times, he is not running to be anybody’s vice president. He will have a formal announcement about running for president later this spring.”
When asked about Trump, Pawlenty commented “I think he’s funny, I think he’s exciting. . . . If hair is going to be a factor in this race, Piers then I’m going to grow my mullet back out.” It seems like Pawlenty might need to worry less about the hair factor and a bit more about avoiding awkward attempts to match Trump’s humor.
