Former Saturday Night Live mainstay Tina Fey returned to her old stomping grounds to host the show’s season 39 premier, and in her monologue, lampooned SNL‘s reputation as a tough workplace for a newbie, and for women. Fey joked about her lack of recurring characters on the show, and then was joined onstage by the six new castmembers, which must be some kind of record.
Longtime fans of SNL know that a “featured player” in the credits is about a likely to be seen as an agoraphobic Ninja, and Fey goosed the misery of being a new castmember by making Beck Bennett, John Milhiser, Kyle Mooney, Mike O’Brien, Noel Wells, and Brooks Wheelan perform a goofy dance behind her, then declaring “Congratulations, you’re done for the night.”
