On Wednesday, MSNBC’s Chuck Todd sat down with Tom Brokaw in Tampa to discuss the previous night’s RNC speeches — particularly the disconnect he noticed between Ann Romney and Chris Christie‘s speeches.
Todd and Brokaw both expressed surprise that Christie didn’t do more to acknowledge Mrs. Romney’s speech some sort of gesture. Brokaw did note that here had been “a little something going on backstage about how long they were going to run the video to introduce him,” and that may have accounted for the abruptness of the transition between the two speeches — one about love, and one about sometimes eschewing love for respect when necessary.
Brokaw guessed that people watching at home might ask “Ok, now who is this very large guy from New Jersey who looks like someone standing at the end of the bar in my hometown?” Todd added that has been described as “very Jersey” of Christie to come on as if to say “you have those warm and fuzzy feelings, now let me tell you about what we’re doing.”
