Todd: Rand Paul’s Gay Marriage Response ‘First Time He’s Acted Like a Politician’
On Morning Joe Tuesday morning Meet the Press host Chuck Todd said Senator and 2016 candidate Rand Paul’s (R-KY) same-sex marriage response was the first time Todd had seen the libertarianish Senator “act like a politician.”
“Fascinating watching him on same-sex marriage,” Todd said. “It took him two days to come out with [his response]. You hate to say it, this was the first time I saw Rand Paul act like a politician, because you kind of knew what he wanted to say, and he didn’t say it.”
Todd indicated he felt Paul agreed with the Supreme Court’s decision legalizing gay marriage but couldn’t say so without risking crucial GOP primary votes, and settled for an op-ed in TIME Magazine arguing that government shouldn’t be in the marriage business at all. Per Todd, that was Paul’s way of endorsing the effects of the decision without endorsing the decision itself.
Rumors that Paul is the consummate politician went unconfirmed at press time. Watch below, via MSNBC:
