Tom Brokaw: Trump’s Congressional Address Was ‘Easily the Most Presidential He’s Been’
Legendary NBC journalist Tom Brokaw gave quite the compliment to President Donald Trump Tuesday, calling his first congressional address the most presidential he’s been to date.
Republican strategist and frequent Trump critic Nicole Wallace got the praise rolling, heralding the speech for its “new, more unifying” tone. “This was the best speech of his political career, his short political career,” she said.
“You’ve seen a lot of administrations,” host Lester Holt turned to Brokaw. “There’s always a learning curve here. Watching that different tone, did you see a president now who recognizes that the governing part has begun, you can only go so far with the executive orders?”
“Well, we’ve been waiting for the pivot since August, remember? ‘We’re going to pivot to being presidential,’” Brokaw said. “Tonight, this is easily the most presidential he’s been. “
Still, he suggested not everything Trump said might have been accurate: “Fact checkers will be very busy for the next 24 hours or so, taking a look at some of the claims he made.”
