Top Chef co-host Padma Lakshmi tore into Donald Trump on the issue of immigration, saying “the only crisis is that we have a lunatic with a lot of power.”
On Tuesday night’s edition of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Lakshmi discussed her role as an ACLU ambassador, and her advocacy on the issue of immigration.
” I’m an immigrant. I really came here with my mother, much like these people at the border,” Lakshmi told host Trevor Noah. “What you have to understand is that, if a parent takes a child on a dangerous journey, puts them on their back, is willing to walk across deserts, that’s because the place they’re leaving is worse and more dangerous, and I just think we have plenty to share. And if you look at all the contributions immigrants have made, you’re basically looking at what America is today, in whole, full stop.”
As the audience applauded, Lakshmi added “There’s no crisis. There’s no crisis. The only crisis is that we have a lunatic with a lot of power. That is the only crisis.”
Noah then informed Lakshmi that Trump prefers his steak well-done, as only history’s greatest monsters do.
“Probably with ketchup as well,” she joked.
Noah then informed her that Trump does, indeed, use ketchup on his well-done steaks.
