Top Senate Intel Dem Says Trump’s Comments Put Whistleblower’s Safety at Risk: ‘Any Rational Person Would Be Concerned’
Senator Mark Warner is very alarmed by President Donald Trump‘s public attacks on the intel whistleblower, and said everyone should be concerned about the whistleblower’s safety after being targeted by the president like that.
“Any rational person would be concerned about the whistleblower’s safety after the President’s comments,” Sen. Mark Warner, vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, says. https://t.co/MzojYeeVqf pic.twitter.com/JYFV4kQ6YE

In comments to CNN’s Manu Raju, Warner said everyone, including his Republican colleagues, should be “calling out the president’s outrageous comments.”
He’s worried about the “chilling effect” Trump’s words will have, and when asked about the whistleblower’s safety, said, “Any rational person would be concerned about the whistleblower’s safety after the president’s comments.”
On Twitter this afternoon Warner said Trump’s attacks on the whistleblower are “dangerous” and “will do serious damage far beyond this news cycle.”
This President’s comments about “spies and treason” and “what we used to do in the old days” are totally unacceptable and will do serious damage far beyond this news cycle.

Why? Consider the alternatives. If someone in the intelligence community witnesses something bad that jeopardizes our national security, where can they go if they can’t report it internally?

If those are the only avenues for accountability within the intelligence community, the United States is in big trouble.
