The United States’ top negotiator on the Iran nuclear deal, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman, dismissed Mike Huckabee‘s Holocaust comment on MSNBC tonight. Huckabee really set off a whirlwind of controversy when he said, of the deal, that President Obama “will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.”
Sherman sat down tonight with Chris Matthews, who just sighed at the “Hitlerite” accusation. Sherman called it “very depressing” and “sad” that Huckabee resorted to comments like that, insisting that the United States is taking Iran as seriously as Huckabee has been saying.
Matthews asked Sherman about not just that, but all of the over-the-top rhetoric about the Iran deal. She said, “What I wish people would do is stop the high-sounding rhetoric, the good five-second soundbite that might work well on TV, and talk about the facts.”
She insisted that the U.S. got a deal that will ensure Iran won’t be able to obtain a nuclear weapon, and told Matthews she hasn’t heard an alternative “that makes any sense.”
