Trevor Noah Celebrates Taylor Swift Weighing Into Politics: ‘This is a Big Deal’
On Tuesday night, Trevor Noah reacted to the political endorsement of Taylor Swift.
Over the weekend, the pop star took to Instagram and endorsed Democrats running in Tennessee and criticized GOP Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn.
Noah began by saying that hearing celebrities voice their political opinions is “like climate change… it’s happening everyday and most people ignore it.” However, he acknowledged that some celebrities “cannot be ignored,” citing pro-Trump rapper Kanye West. And it didn’t take long for him to pivot to Swift.
“This- this is a big deal,” Noah told his audience. “Because you realize until now, Taylor Swift has stayed as far away from politics as she does from rhythm. Don’t get me wrong, don’t get me wrong, I love Tay-Tay’s music, but let’s be honest, have you seen her dancing?”
The Daily Show host then had some fun at the expense of President Donald Trump, who after hearing that Taylor Swift endorsed Democrats said he liked her music “25% less now.” He did admit though he took it “surprisingly well.”
“That’s a weird way to express displeasure,” Noah reacted. “He likes her music 25% less? Like what does that even mean? Is he now just gonna cut off 25% of his Taylor merchandise?”
Noah concluded by telling pro-Taylor conservatives who are “feeling conflicted” about her endorsement of Democrats to “shake it off.”
