On Thursday night, Trevor Noah sided with Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the ongoing feud with President Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump’s anger makes no sense,” he said. “Sessions had to recuse himself from an investigation into the Trump campaign because he was part of the Trump campaign. You can’t investigate yourself. It’s one of those things that’s best done by another person, like surgery or haircuts.”
Noah asserted that the reason why Trump is lashing out at Sessions now despite his recusal occurring back in March was because Special Counsel Robert Mueller “has his hand on the thermostat and he is turning it way up.”
“Because Jeff Sessions can’t protect Trump from Mueller, Trump now wants to get rid of Sessions,” he said. “The only problem is the tiny man has big friends.”
The Daily Show host was referring to Republicans on Capitol Hill who have promised “there will be holy hell to pay” if Trump fired Sessions.
“Before Sessions joined his campaign, Trump was a joke in Washington,” he stated. “Sessions didn’t just bring his cookies to the campaign, he brought credibility.”
He went on to say what Sessions did for Trump is what Dr. Dre did for Eminem.
“Trust me, this crazy-ass white guy is the real deal. Just trust me!” he quipped.
Noah then listed how Sessions has been executing the GOP agenda from going after sanctuary cities to cracking down on marijuana.
“If the White House is a clown, Jeff Sessions is the only clown who knows how to drive,” he added.
He concluded that if Trump gets rid of Sessions, there’s a “very real chance” Republicans will get rid of him.
