Trevor Noah kicked off his show Monday night by noting an “Irishman” who didn’t have the greatest St. Patrick’s Day: Andrew McCabe.
The Daily Show host called McCabe’s firing from the FBI a “big deal” and after noting the DOJ’s reasons for firing him including leaks to the press and the “lack of candor” to investigators, he also acknowledged McCabe’s side of the story. Noah began by giving President Trump the benefit of the doubt that the firing wasn’t an act of vengeance, but that it “doesn’t help” when he trashes the former FBI deputy on Twitter. He also recalled the time when Trump reportedly referred to McCabe’s wife as a “loser” for losing her state senate campaign in 2016 after firing former FBI Director James Comey.
“I’m sorry man, but Donald Trump is a proper a**hole. Like if being an a**hole were an arcade game, he would have all the top scores,” ” Noah reacted. “Think about it, he’s mad at Comey… so he insult’s McCabe’s wife because she ran for a senate seat and lost? That’s so messed up, especially since Trump should know what it’s like to have a wife who wants to run.”
Noah then called it “heartless” that the timing of McCabe’s firing was just two days before he was able to receive his pension. He also mocked Trump for “definitely considering” firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
“You know how they say men think about sex every eight seconds? That’s what Trump does with firing people,” Noah said.
