Trevor Noah returned from vacation tonight and immediately addressed the horrific Orlando massacre by declaring, “We shouldn’t allow this to be normal.”
“We shock,” he observed, “we mourn, we change our profile pics, and we move on.”
He grimly pointed out to viewers that not only is the press briefing room President Obama spoke from named after a victim of gun violence, but Obama has now had more speeches on gun violence than state dinners during his entire presidency.
Noah proceeded to take on political resistance to gun control, pointing out that after 9/11, America made it harder to attack airplanes and “what we didn’t do was say, ‘Oh, this has nothing to do with airplanes.'”
He went point-by-point down a list of reasons why gun violence needs to be seriously addressed, and asked, “Do you want to be a country that takes reasonable measures to take its citizens or do you want to tell the president to prepare speech number 17?”
