Trump Blames Hillary for Birtherism, Wolf Blitzer Summarily Fact-Checks Him

trump blitzerOriginal birther Donald Trump today tried to push birtherism on Hillary Clinton, but Wolf Blitzer didn’t go to commercial break without fact-checking that little claim.

Blitzer brought up a clip of Clinton bringing up birtherism and Trump responded by saying, “Do you know who started the birther movement?… Hillary Clinton. She’s the one that started it.”

He went on a tangent about the email investigation before Blitzer asked him about whether he’s still a birther. Trump shrugged and said, “I don’t talk about it anymore.” (This isn’t the first time he’s cynically waffled on the issue.)

When Blitzer went to break, he noted, “Hillary Clinton never said that Barack Obama was born outside the United States.”

Yes, people supporting Clinton pushed that birther rumor in 2008, but as PolitiFact found, there was nothing officially tying the rumors to the Clinton campaign. Also, there’s the fact that unlike Trump, Clinton never publicly brought it up like she thought it was a real problem.
