President Trump dismissed the interview he did in which he slammed British Prime Minister Theresa May as “fake news” in a presser on Friday.
As Trump and May held a press conference in the United Kingdom, the former was asked if he “changed his tune” after his interview with The Sun where he slammed May’s policies and threatened to pull a U.S.-U.K trade deal off the table.
This interview happened while May is still dealing with the turmoil following Boris Johnson‘s resignation, and Trump was also asked about how he criticized May for not listening to his suggestions on handling Brexit.
“I didn’t criticize the prime minister,” Trump said. “I have a lot of respect for the prime minister and unfortunately there was a story that was done which was generally fine but it didn’t put in what I said about the prime minister and I said tremendous things…It’s called fake news.”
Trump continued to outline his views about future trade with the UK, and May did the same while glossing over a question about how she felt about the president’s remarks.
