Trump Calls to Give Drug Dealers the Death Penalty: ‘This Isn’t About Nice Anymore’
As President Trump outlined his plan to tackle the opiod crisis throughout America, he brought back his call to have drug dealers executed.
Trump spoke in New Hampshire today, where he called for increased law enforcement against drug traffickers and said blue-ribbon committees are “wasting our time” if they don’t get tougher on distributors.
“We can have all the blue-ribbon committees we want, but if we don’t get tough on the drug dealers, we’re wasting our time. Just remember that. We’re wasting our time. And that toughness includes the death penalty.”
Trump continued to say that drug dealers kill or ruin the lives of thousands of people, but don’t get the death penalty or life in prison like other murderers do. “This isn’t about nice anymore,” Trump said as he continued to dismissively talk about “blue ribbon committees” and other people who hold dinners to talk about solving the problem but not taking action.
“This is about winning a very, very tough problem. And if we don’t get very tough on these dealers, it’s not going to happen, folks. It’s not going to happen. And I want to win this battle. I don’t want to leave at the end of seven years and have this problem. Okay? I don’t want that.”
Trump has called for harsher punishments against drug dealers before, and reports state he recently expressed approval for the extrajudicial killings of drug dealers in the Philippines.
