On Tuesday afternoon, President Donald Trump sat for an interview with Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo, which aired in several parts throughout Wednesday’s edition of Mornings with Maria Bartiromo.
At one point, the topic turned to North Korea, with Bartiromo asking “What we’re doing right now?” in the context of Navy ships being “redirected” to the Korean peninsula.
Trump’s answer was coy, especially at first: “You never know. You never know,” he said.
The reasoning for the response was that, “I don’t talk about the military. I’m not like Obama, where they talk about ‘In four months, we’re gonna hit Mosul,’ and in the meantime, they get ready. Mosul was supposed to last for a week, and now they’ve been fighting it for many months.”
Trump did elaborate a moment later — although not too much. “We are sending an armada,” he said. “Very powerful. We have…submarines. Very powerful. Far more powerful than the aircraft carrier, that I can tell you. We have the best military people on Earth. And I will say this: [Kim Jong Un] is doing the wrong thing. He’s making a big mistake.”
When Bartiromo asked if Trump thinks the North Korean dictator is “mentally fit,” Trump said he didn’t know. He then pivoted to his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and how it went longer than originally planned.
