Pope Francis is traveling to Mexico tomorrow for an almost-week-long visit that will culminate in His Holiness standing on the U.S.-Mexican border in solidarity with migrants.
On Fox Business Network this morning, Stu Varney asked Donald Trump for his take on the matter. Trump wasted no time in saying, “I think that the Pope is a very political person.”
The Donald elaborated:
“I think he doesn’t understand the problems our country has. I don’t think he understands the danger of the open border that we have with Mexico. And I think Mexico got him to do it because Mexico wants to keep the border the way it is because they’re making a fortune and we’re losing.”
(Note to any reporters who cover Pope Francis’ visit this week: resist the urge to ask the leader of the Catholic Church about Donald Trump. Just… don’t.)
