Trump: I’m Behind in Polls Because ‘They’re Polling Democrats’!
Donald Trump used one of the new WikiLeaks emails to decry a “rigging” of the polls.
The email in question involves an email chain on polling data in which Tom Matzzie wrote, “I also want to get your Atlas folks to recommend oversamples for our polling before we start in February.”
This email is from 2008.
Matzzie responded earlier to people picking this up thusly:
Option 1: 8 years ago we presciently rigged 2016 polling. Option 2: the people commenting on this are being misled by a demagogue
— Tom Matzzie (@tommatzzie) October 24, 2016
So naturally, Trump picked up on it, said that oversampling (which is common in polling) is a “voter suppression technique,” and bragged that when polls are even he leads them.
He said it’s no wonder he’s behind when “they’re polling Democrats.”
(Trump’s campaign is run by a professional pollster. Does she perhaps have any thoughts on this?)
