President Donald Trump had just completed a joint press event in the Oval Office with the Puerto Rican governor (in which he gave himself a 10 out of 10 for his response to the hurricane ravaged U.S. territory) when a reporter asked the president about the Russian Uranium story.
This was pegged to a recent report from The Hill that suggests that the FBI gathered evidence of possible illegal activity surrounding the Obama administration’s 2010 uranium deal with Russia. With the help of an informant in Russia, the FBI has gathered documents, emails, financial records, and eyewitness accounts that officials in the Russian nuclear industry were involved in “bribery, kickbacks, extortion, and money laundering” in hopes to strengthen Vladimir Putin’s atomic energy business in the U.S.
Trump was very willing to answer the inaudible question, extending the press event by proclaiming “Uranium is a big subject” before hitting the “mainstream media” for not covering the uranium scandal. He then tied this to the ongoing investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, saying:
“I think that’s your Russia story. That’s your real Russia story. Not a story where they talk about collusion and there was none. It was a hoax. Your real Russia story is uranium. And how they got all of that uranium. Vast percentage of what we have. That is, to me, one of the big stories of the decade, not just now. Of the decade. The problem is that the mainstream media does not want to cover that story because that affects people that they protect. So they don’t like covering that story. But the big story is uranium and how Russia got 20% of our uranium. Frankly, it’s a disgrace. It’s a disgrace. And it’s a disgrace that the fake news won’t cover it. It’s so sad. “
