Trump Now Open to ‘Big’ Donors ‘As Long as They Don’t Expect Anything’
Donald Trump has touted his independence from political donors lots of times (after all, he’s really rich), but now he’s starting to potentially warm up to the idea.
First, a report from Politico this afternoon reveals that Trump met with big donors last month (before he publicly swiped at his Republican rivals for begging for Koch brothers money). The event was a fundraiser for the Make America Great Again PAC, a PAC backing The Donald.
In a statement, Trump said, “There are so many people wanting to contribute and I am so grateful for their support. I appreciate the moral investment in my vision to Make America Great Again.”
But that report came today in tandem with Trump saying on CBS this morning that he’s okay with donors now, provided there are no strings attached.
Trump told John Dickerson, “I would even take big contributors as long as they don’t expect anything… I actually like the idea of investing in a campaign, but it has to be no strings attached.”
He bragged about being able to turn down 5 million from a lobbyist.
