Trump on Kavanaugh Investigation: ‘FBI Should Do What They Have to Do to Get to the Answer’

Following a press conference about trade, President Donald Trump was bombarded by questions regarding the FBI’s investigation into his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

After refusing to answer questions about his embattled nominee multiple times at the beginning of the event, Trump ultimately relented and responded to the reporters.

“Okay, you want to get off trade,” Trump said. “I don’t know, you people are falling asleep with trade. To me, it’s the most exciting thing you can talk about.”

When asked about conflicting reports of whether Trump himself was limiting the scope of the FBI’s investigation into Kavanaugh, the President attempted to clear things up by punting responsibility to the Senate.

“What I said is let the Senate decide,” Trump explained. “Whatever they want to do is okay with me.”

Trump reiterated that this investigation marks the seventh one conducted by the FBI into Kavanaugh’s background.

“It’s not like they’re just now starting,” Trump said. “I want them to do a very comprehensive investigation, whatever that means according to the Senators… and the Republican majority.”

When pressed again about the details of the scope of the investigation, Trump said he thinks the FBI “should do what they have to do to get the answers.”

Trump repeated that he wants the investigation to be comprehensive, indicating he thinks the investigation is “a good thing” for Kavanaugh, as he believes nothing incriminating will show up.

“With that being said, I’d like it to go quickly and the reason i’d like it to go quickly is because it’s unfair to him at this point,” Trump added. “What his wife is going through. What his beautiful children are going through… it’s not describable. It’s not fair. I think it’s fair to do it to me… it’s part of my job description to handle this crap.”

While Trump said that he felt baldy for everybody involved, his propensity to lash out and blame Democrats for his nominee’s struggles was evident.

I feel badly for our country. This is so bad for our country,” Trump said. “I watch those Senators on the Democrat side, and I thought it was a disgrace… They are not angels.”
