Pro-Trump pundit and Tea Party leader Scottie Nell Hughes downplayed the calls for Donald Trump to release his tax records, arguing on CNN that other candidates haven’t released their birth certificates and college applications.
Hughes denounced “Benedict Romney” and the 2012 GOP nominee’s call for Trump to release his tax returns. “Once again, we’re seeing Donald Trump being held to different standards that others are not. Where are the records, where are the paperwork from everyone else?” she asked
But host Carol Costello noted that she had just played audio of the other candidates agreeing to release their records. “You just heard the candidates say they are perfectly willing to turn over their tax records, there’s not much to see… So that is not true.”
“But it’s not just tax records,” Hughes said. “What about applications to college? What about grade transcripts, even birth certificates?”
“It’s always Mr. Trump that’s been asked and been held accountable to release things,” she complained, “When other candidates are given basically Scotchgard and are able to just get away with just saying ‘I’ve got them, I’ll give them to you later,’ and you never see them. It’s not just tax records.”
Among the candidates who have yet to release their birth certificate or college transcript is Donald Trump.
