During a meeting at his Bedminster golf course today, President Donald Trump welcomed in reporters for a short question-and-answer session and created a number of ready-made headlines with his answers.
At one point, the president was asked to give his thoughts on the FBI raiding his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s house last month. It had been reported that news of the pre-dawn, no knock raid had rattled many within Trump’s inner circle.
“I thought it was a very, very strong signal,” the president noted, adding that he was “very surprised to see it.”
Asked he had spoken to the FBI or attorney general about the raid, Trump said that he hadn’t, before remarking that Manafort is a “very decent man” who makes money consulting “like a lot of other people.”
He continued, “I thought it pretty tough stuff to wake him up, perhaps his family was there. I think that’s pretty tough stuff.”
