Trump Thinks He Should Be Time’s Person of the Year: ‘I Can’t Imagine Anybody Else’
Time magazine is weighing whom to name its next “Person of the Year,” and President Donald Trump can’t think of anyone more deserving of the recognition than, well, himself, of course.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Tuesday, Trump recognized that ultimately, the decision won’t be his to make, but he has a pretty good idea of the right choice.
“I don’t know, that’s up to Time magazine. I’ve been there before,” he said, referring his 2016 appearance on the publication’s cover. “I can’t imagine anybody else other than Trump. Can you imagine anybody other than Trump?”
Smirking, the president then pointed to the crowd with a “huh?” to reinforce his opinion.
Last year, a dust up between Trump and the magazine occurred when he claimed Time called him to let him know he’d likely be Person of the Year for the second time in a row and that he turned it down, apparently uninterested. That was disputed by the outlet, which said the president was wrong.
On Monday, Time revealed a poll for 2018’s Person of the Year in which Trump looks to be on the list of contenders. However, when readers were asked who they’d like to see, he came in 19th place. The top pick was South Korean boy band BTS closely followed by the Thai cave divers who rescued the soccer team trapped earlier this year.
