Trump Trolls Debate Critics: I Will Totally Accept the Election Results…’If I Win’
Donald Trump opened up a Thursday rally in Ohio by apparently trolling election observers and media critics with regard to his remarks last night about whether he would accept a potential loss.
Last night, moderator Chris Wallace targeted Trump’s recent rhetoric by asking whether he would abide by American tradition and concede to Hillary Clinton in the event he loses. Trump decided to answer with “I’ll keep you in suspense,” which has become subject to enormous criticism.
When Trump took the stage, he offered what might be the ultimate tease:
“I would like to promise and pledge to all of my voters and supporters and to all of the people of the United States, that I will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election…If I win.”
Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, offered a similar line when asked about Trump’s remarks last night.
Trump went on to say that his rhetoric was about demanding fairness for the electoral process. As Trump continued to rail against voter fraud (which has largely been debunked), he went on to say that he’d accept the results, but reserves the right to contest the results if he finds them objectionable in some way.
