Donald Trump began his Virginia Beach speech today by talking about how we need to tamp down the “hostility” that has manifested against police officers all over the country.
In the wake of Dallas, Trump said that police often do their jobs “thanklessly and under relentless criticism,” so he said he wanted to send the message that America thanks them.
He declared that any politician or activist who wants to take police out of certain communities wants to hurt “the poorest and most vulnerable Americans,” and said it’s time for the “hostility against our police to end.”
Trump also addressed the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, saying that we need to ensure “Americans feel that their safety is protected.”
