U.S. Attorney Goes Off on Fox News’s Gregg Jarrett’s Call For FBI to Be Shut Down: ‘Malicious’
U.S. attorney Chuck Rosenberg pushed back at Fox News analyst Gregg Jarrett‘s call for the FBI to be shut down over the presumption of political bias.
“This is an all-powerful, out of control agency, rogue agency, and frankly, it’s time that it be halted in its tracks, reorganized, and replaced with a new organization,” MSNBC’s Brian Williams quoted Jarrett as saying. “It is time that the FBI be halted.”
Rosenberg, a former FBI official, slammed Jarrett’s statement as “deeply and maliciously false,” and implied he’d use improper words to describe it if he could.
“Let me tell you this about the FBI, because I had the privilege of working there,” he said. “They are deeply tethered to the rule of law and to the Constitution, in particular with respect to counterintelligence investigations. They are among the most highly regulated investigations in our federal government…. And so the things that the fellow on Fox had to say or the new chairman had to say are deeply wrong. They’re offensive. They’re malicious. And they undermine the work of the men and women of the FBI. It really breaks my heart to hear.”
Former federal prosecutor Cynthia Alksne said she also feels heartbroken by the way “well-meaning” and hardworking FBI employees are spoken about.
