Valerie Jarrett Dismisses Critics: ‘When You Break Glass Ceilings’ You Get Cuts

White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett was the subject of a controversial Politico Magazine piece suggesting she leave the White House to work on President Obama‘s library, which just happened to be titled “Fire Valerie Jarrett.” That invited an onslaught of criticism against not just the Politico piece, but Jarrett herself, and she responded to the criticism today on MSNBC.

Joy Reid did not refer to the Politico piece specifically, but did ask Jarrett to respond to some of the criticism she’s been getting recently. And it didn’t seem to really bother Jarrett that much. She said, “When you break glass ceilings, you’re gonna get scraped––minor scrapes by a shard or two from the glass.”

“If I take a bump or bruise along the way,” Jarrett added, “that’s nothing compared to the sacrifices that the women whose shoulders I stand upon made along the way.”

The Politico piece has invited a wave of criticism, with some decrying it as sexist and others arguing that maybe it’s not Jarrett who’s the problem in the White House.
