Van Jones defended President Barack Obama‘s foreign policy record on This Week, noting that there’s a rather clear reason the GOP is going after his handling of the attack in Libya. Obama “is a towering figure on foreign policy,” he argued.
“I don’t have any doubt in my mind that the State Department wanted to protect every single citizen in all these embassies,” Greta Van Susteren said, “and it’s a lot easier in 20/20 hindsight to say, ‘Oh we should’ve answered that cable in a different way.'”
What she didn’t understand, she added, was why the president won’t just be “straight” about the situation.
There’s a reason the Republicans keep using Obama’s handling of the situation as a point of attack, Van Jones said. “President Obama is a towering figure on foreign policy. You got somebody with a Nobel Peace Prize, and he killed Osama bin Laden.”
“Think about what it means to be a towering figure,” he continued, specifically pointing to Obama’s handling of Iran, criticizing Romney for “doubling down” on a weak approach.
“Romney has doubled down on weak and reckless. Obama has pulled the world together. He is a towering figure,” he reiterated.
