Actor Mark Wahlberg found himself in a public feud with Tom Cruise this week after several media outlets (including this one) reported on comments he made following the world premiere screening of his new film Lone Survivor. Now, Wahlberg is claiming he wasn’t specifically referring to Cruise when he slammed “actors” for comparing shooting on location to serving in Afghanistan.
TMZ caught up with Wahlberg Wednesday and asked him about “the Tom Cruise thing.” At first Wahlberg said he didn’t know what the reporter was talking about, but then clarified his response after being told it was Cruise who had allegedly made the comments in the first place:
“I didn’t know that it was Tom Cruise who had said that. Somebody had just mentioned that people were comparing that. I love Tom Cruise, he’s a great actor… I have the utmost respect for Tom Cruise, but, you know, I have the utmost respect for military guys so, it’s just unfair for anybody to comment on that.”
Wahlberg did not mention Cruise’s name in his original response at the film screening, and, as TMZ reported, Cruise has said his words were taken out of context and denied equating his acting work with serving in the military.
