Debbie Wasserman Schultz On Return Of Rep. Giffords: ‘Gabby Melted Our Hearts’

One of the few people who knew ahead of time that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords would appear in Congress Monday to cast her vote on the debt deal, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Shultz described the moment–and the planning that went into it–on CNN’s American Morning Tuesday, telling Ali Velshi the sight of Giffords–who was nearly killed in a shooting spree in Tucson in January–had an instant effect on the divided House, filling it with electricity. “Gabby melted our hearts…it was absolutely an incredible moment.”

Wasserman Shultz said Giffords husband Mark called on Sunday to say Rep. Giffords had been following the debt crisis negotiations and was intent on returning to work to cast a vote. “As the hours went by, she decided this was probably the most important bill we’ll consider the whole Congress and she wanted to be there to make sure that her constituents in the Eighth District in Arizona had their voices represented.”
