In a video message to Democratic voters, DNC chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz announced Saturday a review of the party’s strategy to determine what went wrong in the 2014 midterm elections. She also sought to reassure supporters that she is certain the electoral results do not reflect poorly upon the party’s future prospects.
“We know we’re right on the issues,” Wasserman Schultz said. “The American people believe in the causes we’re fighting for. But the electoral success we have when our presidential nominee is able to make the case to the country as a whole, doesn’t translate in other elections.”
“We’ve got to do better,” she added.
Wasserman Schultz also said she will appoint a committee of active Democratic officials and activists to review the midterms and release a report at next year’s annual DNC meetings.
“We are going to look at where we fell short,” she promised. “We’re going to identify our mistakes. And we’re going to talk to the smartest people in our party and the most dedicated Democrats in the country to build on what we’ve done that works and find solutions for things that are broken.”
