Monday afternoon at approximately 4:45pm, Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick held a joint press conference to discuss details of the coordinated bombings that occurred during the Boston Marathon just hours earlier. During the news conference, Davis confirmed that a third explosion at the JFK Library had occurred and the city is treating it as related.
Given that the city is considering the situation as “ongoing event,” Davis urged Boston citizens to stay “calm” but also to “stay home” or in their hotel rooms and “not congregate in large crowds.” Davis declined to confirm or comment on reports from The New York Post and others that there is a suspect under guard at an undisclosed Boston hospital.
Governor Patrick confirmed that he spoke to President Obama, who assured him that Boston will have “full cooperation of the FBI” in the investigation. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has been in the hospital with a fractured leg and was not available to make public remarks.
