As the situation unfolds in Texas after the fatal school shooting at Santa Fe High School, a student and her mother gave a heart-wrenching interview when telling reports what they witnessed before she escaped.
The young woman tearfully recalled how she and other students started running when they heard the first gunshots. The mother said she found her girl having an asthma attack in a nearby field, and she began talking about how terrified she was amid the initial panic.
“I just can’t even begin to tell you what that is like, and then it’s hard enough to get in here and get to her,” the mother said. “[The police] are trying to block the way and I just blasted past everybody. I didn’t even care. I had to get to her.”
UPDATE – 12:19 p.m. EST: The student has given further statements to the media, offering gut-wrenching accounts of what she experienced.
“I shouldn’t be going through this, it’s my school, this is my daily life. I shouldn’t have to feel like that, and I feel scared to even go back.”
