The highly-anticipated Princess Diana biopic has its first teaser trailer and now we have our first look at actress Naomi Watts as the iconic figure. The film, simply titled Diana, is said to chronicle the final two years of the Princess of Wales’ life, including her relationships with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan and Dodi Fayed, both of whom can be seen briefly in the teaser.
Diana is directed by German director Oliver Hirschbiegel, who is responsible for the the Oscar-nominated Der Untergang (or Downfall in English) after Adolph Hitler‘s final days. By extension, Hirschbiegal is also indirectly responsible for the plethora of Downfall parodies on YouTube, in which Hitler becomes furious about everything from the late night wars to the Tony Awards.
The film is scheduled to be released in September 2013 in the UK, with an American release shortly after. That puts it well ahead of James Ponsoldt‘s Rodham so we unfortunately won’t be seeing a Diana vs. Hillary showdown at next year’s Oscars.
