Watch Hillary Clinton and Bill de Blasio Make an Awkward Joke About ‘Colored People Time’
During New York City’s annual Inner Circle Dinner skit Saturday, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio made a joke referring to “C.P. time,” an abbreviation for “colored people time.”
Clinton began by needling de Blasio for taking his time in endorsing her. “I just have to say thanks for the endorsement, Bill. Took you long enough,” she said to laughter.
“Sorry Hillary, I was running on C.P. time,” de Blasio responded to a mixture of chuckles and gasps.
“That’s not — I don’t like jokes like that, Bill,” Hamilton actor Leslie Odom Jr. replied.
That set up Clinton to deliver the punchline, “Cautious politician time,” she explained.
“Colored people time” and “C.P. time” are references to the stereotype that African-Americans are always late to events.
